As a Finance Technician your primary responsibilities are to perform skilled accounting and clerical tasks that require a high level of attention to detail and organizational skills. Some of the required functions include preparing journal entries, verifying records and identifying and investigating discrepancies, balancing and reconciling, receiving, posting, and balancing payments, preparing bank deposits, and answering inquiries from other employees and external stakeholders. Due to the nature of the work, you must be able to maintain the confidentiality of information and records and deal tactfully and diplomatically with the public and members of staff in sensitive issues. The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:
- Completion of a minimum of 45 credits of a business-focused degree from an accredited university or post-secondary institution, including the completion of a management accounting course and a financial accounting course.
- Proficient in intermediate Word and intermediate Excel, as demonstrated through testing. (70% required to pass)
- Minimum one year’s previous accounting experience that includes ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and working with electronic applications and software programs.
- Proficient in advanced alphanumeric data entry as demonstrated through testing.
For new hires, and for those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, no formal offer of employment will be made until an applicant completes a police information check. This position will receive 14% in lieu of all benefits, vacation, stat holidays, and health time.
This is a temporary position until approximately November 5, 2025 or return of incumbent.
